My wife and I rented The Bucket List with Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman last weekend and really enjoyed it.  If you haven’t seen it yet, it is about two men who are sharing a hospital room both fighting sickness and they find out at the same time that they have between six and 12 months to live.  Jack Nicholson plays the owner of the hospital who has loads of money and lives a life of luxury and Morgan Freeman is a mechanic who has had to work hard and sacrifice his whole life.  The two men decide to make a list of things to do before they "kick the bucket" and they use Jack Nicholson’s character’s money to make all of the dreams a reality.

The list includes things like skydiving and driving a Shelby Mustang.  But also included some things like witness something majestic.  The movie kind of got me thinking about my life and the kind of impact I need to make on those around me NOW before I find out there are only a few months left.

Recently, I was appointed to serve as Guardian ad Litem for a "protected adult" because DSS and Adult Protective Services took custody of him because of "self neglect."  He was living in a mess, dealing with many personal afflictions and addictions and is suffering from dementia.  What really hit home to me was that he is only 56 years old (very young) and is moving into a period in his life where he won’t be able to make an impact and will be required to live a very structured life in a nursing home.

We never know what might lie around the corner of life, so make sure you are living the life God called you to now.  Don’t wait to be "successful" before you pass along value to others and enjoy your life.
