If the LORD delights in a man’s way, he makes his steps firm; Though he stumble, he will not fall, for the LORD upholds him with his hand. Psalm 37: 23-24.
This really hit me hard this morning as I read it. I began thinking of my 11 month old son who is getting braver and braver by the day. Nothing seems to phase him and he is incredibly curious. He has recently started trying to venture up the stairs in the front of our house. He can crawl up them pretty good, but has not mastered descending the stairs yet, and although he crawls pretty good, he is still a little unsteady – especially on the steps. He doesn’t seem to notice anything else around him when he is trying to climb the steps – he is totally focused on the work ahead of him.
Whenever I notice him going for the climb, I crawl up the stairs quietly behind him just in case he stumbles or gets off-balance so I can make sure he doesn’t fall and hurt himself. Our God does the same thing for us. Though we may be knocked off-balance, his hand is right there on our back the whole time. He will not let us fall. AMEN! We aren’t just talking about going up the steps either. We are talking in ALL situations in our life – God is there for us.
