Have you ever noticed someone that is just 100% sold out and passionate about what they do? Are you that person? One definition of “passion” from M-W.com is an intense, driving, or overmastering conviction. I was at a real estate law seminar for attorneys and legal staff this week - a place I would usually not associate with people of driving passion. However, I was very surprised by some of the presenters. They were truly passionate about their jobs and their work. You can just tell. They have an “it.” Something about their love for their work just oozed out of them. I could see the knowledge and their desire to teach the information just bubbling out. One thing that really impressed me was their commanding knowledge of the subject matter - no doubt from the years of hard work they have put into their love. I want to have that. I want people to be able to know what I am all about just by watching me for a few minutes or hours. I don’t want to have to tell them. I want them to be able to just see my passion seep out of me.
Are you passionate about what you spend your time doing? Do you really love it? I have spent a lot of time trying to identify my passions, spiritual gifts, and abilities. I refuse to live a life of mediocrity where I am good at what I do but I can’t stand doing it. I think life is too short and your passion is located at the intersection of your passions, spiritual gifts, experiences, and values. That is how God made you unique from any other person on this planet to live out your specific mission.
I recently read a quote that shook my core from Jim Cymbala’s book, Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire that says, “I despair at the thought that my life might pass me by without God moving greatly on my behalf.”
No matter how comfortable my life is, it is worthless if I am just coasting through not doing what I was created for and God will surely not be “moving greatly on my behalf.” So I hope that you can find your passion as well because I think carries over into all parts of life - finances, career, relationships, spirituality, and physical wellbeing.
Since my search for passion is what is really driving me now. I will probably be writing a lot about it. I want my search to be helpful to others in finding their life passions so they can function at 100% effectiveness.
