Sometimes, I feel like God’s church is losing focus on what we are called to do. We are called by Jesus to “go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in[a] the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” (Matthew 28: 19-20).
I have witnessed in my own church and heard stories in other churches about how people lose focus on the calling and get focused on how their viewpoint or position is affected. I get frustrated seeing God’s church broken down by infighting over stupid stuff. For example: our church is currently sending several people on mission trips throughout the country and some abroad. In trying to support these missionaries we have had cookouts, yard sales, bake sales, and more. Recently there was a community bake-off. A competition. Even before the decisions were made by non-member, unbiased judges people were complaining of how the competition was rigged and there was no chance they could win so why participate.
COME ON PEOPLE! Don’t take your eye off the ball. It’s not about us. It’s about Jesus. It’s about winning souls to Jesus Christ. The competition is supposed to be fun. It is supposed to raise money to send out missionaries. Get in the game, stop complaining, stop putting the brakes on God’s work in the church!
I’m just saying…
